Lead Keels

Lead is the heaviest commonly available material. It has a density of 11.3 g/cm³, making it the perfect material to be used as ballast for boats.

Using lead has the following advantages: greater stability, smaller volume of the part, which means a smaller surface area to get wet and less friction. The use of one or the other will depend on the preferences of the shipowner, which will be channelled through the design of the part.
